A solidarity expedition to Mauritania was organised aiming to reuse medical material from different hospitals.
The purpose of the project was to provide photographic evidence of the trip and show the effectiveness of the expedition on
printed material.
The creative proposal was to portray the current situation of Mauritania in parallel to the expedition itself. The result: a book to raise awareness and be a documentary reference for the purpose of the route and the context of the trip.
The covers of the book are made out of cardboard remains of the packaging of medical and pharmaceutical products. Each cover is different depending on the die-cutting procedure.
Book sales generated over 7,000 euro of benefit, amount which went entirely to the NGO AMAMI, located in Nouakchott.
Sometimes, we designers have to face risks. Apart from generating brands, annuals or packaging, every now and again we need a project where we can get more personally and emotionally involved than usual.
This is what made me spend Christmas in the middle of the dessert with a camera in my hands trying to remember the photography tips that my friend the photographer Sergio Assabbi had given me in each project I had developed with him years before.
Making a book is a beautiful thing to do, but generating the contents of almost the whole of the book is a very complex task. I am extremely grateful to Silvia Arce for the trust she placed in me for this project to become a reality.
